Using Bulk Select Actions in Your SMS Inbox

Use bulk select to mark multiple SMS conversations as read, unread, open, or closed all at once.

Updated yesterday

What is Bulk Select? Bulk select lets you take action on multiple conversations at once — instead of clicking through each one individually, you can select them all and make changes in seconds.

Getting to Know the New Inbox Layout

The updated Inbox has a new panel on the left side that helps you navigate your messages. From here, you'll see several views to choose from:

  • Unread – Messages you haven't read yet

  • Open – Active conversations currently in progress

  • Closed – Conversations that have been resolved

  • Drafts – Messages you've started but haven't sent

  • All Messages – Everything in one place, regardless of status

If you have multiple phone numbers, you'll also see a drop-down menu at the top to filter messages by a specific number or view all of them together.

How to Use Bulk Select

Each view (Unread, Open, Closed, All Messages) has a "Select All" option at the top of the conversation list. Click it to select every conversation in that view at once, or click individual conversations to select just the ones you want.

Once you've made your selection, you'll see action buttons appear. Here's what you can do in each view:

Unread Messages

  • Mark all as Read

  • Close all conversations (closing will also automatically mark them as read)

Open Messages

  • Mark all as Unread

  • Close all conversations

Closed Conversations

  • Mark all as Open (re-open them)

All Messages

  • Mark all as Read or Unread

  • Close all conversations

  • Open all conversations

Drafts — No bulk actions are available here.

A Few Things to Know

Confirmation before changes are made — Similar to how Gmail works, you'll see a confirmation step before the action is applied, so you won't accidentally change things.

Deselecting after an action — Once you've completed a bulk action, you'll need to manually unselect the items to clear the selection. They won't deselect on their own.

It applies to ALL selected items, even ones you can't see — If you have a long list of conversations and select all, the bulk action will apply to every selected conversation — including ones that are further down the list and off-screen. Double-check your selection before confirming!
