If your account has more than one phone number, you can filter your SMS inbox by number, see which number a message came from, and choose which number to send from. Here's everything you need to know.
Filtering Your Inbox by Phone Number
A panel on the left side of your inbox lets you switch between viewing all your messages together or just the messages for a specific number.
To filter by phone number:
Look for the drop-down menu at the top of the left panel in your inbox.
By default, it is set to All Numbers. This shows every conversation across all your phone numbers.
Click the drop-down and select a specific phone number to see only conversations for that number.
Tip: Each phone number in the list shows its emoji, label, and number so you can easily tell them apart.
Adding a Label to Your Phone Numbers
Labels make it easy to recognize your numbers at a glance. If you haven't added labels yet, here's how:
Go to Settings and open My Phone Numbers.
Find the number you want to label and add a name for it (for example, "Sales" or "Support").
Save your changes. The label will now appear in your inbox filter drop-down.
Filtering Conversations Within a Number
Once you select a phone number from the drop-down, you can further sort your conversations using the filters on the side panel:
Unread — messages you haven't read yet
Open — active conversations
Closed — completed conversations
Drafts — messages you started but haven't sent
All Messages — everything
When a specific number is selected, the filter titles will show the phone number and its emoji so you always know what you're looking at.
Seeing Which Number a Message Belongs To
In your conversation list, you'll notice a small emoji icon over the contact's avatar. This icon shows you at a glance which of your phone numbers that message was sent from or received on — no need to open the conversation to find out.
Choosing Which Number to Send From
When sending a new message, you can choose which phone number it goes out from. This feature is only available if you have more than one phone number on your account.
Sending a New Message
Click the New Message button.
In the new message panel, look for the From field with a drop-down menu.
Select the phone number you want to send from.
Enter your recipient and message, then send.
How the Default Number Works
The From field will pre-fill based on your current inbox filter:
If you have a specific number selected in your filter, new messages will default to that number.
If you have All Numbers selected, new messages will default to your primary (first) phone number.
You can always change the number before sending by clicking the From drop-down and selecting a different option.
