Navigating Your SMS Inbox

A step-by-step guide to understanding the layout and features of the SMS inbox, including how to filter conversations, manage messages, and send new texts.

Overview

If you're managing texts from multiple phone numbers, or you have a high volume of conversations coming in, this inbox helps you stay organized. You can quickly see which messages are unread, filter by phone number, take action on multiple conversations at once, and never lose track of a draft you weren't ready to send.

Everything is visible at a glance so you spend less time searching and more time connecting with your contacts.

Using Your SMS Inbox

The Three Panes

When you open your inbox, you'll see three sections side by side. The far left is your filter panel, the middle shows your list of conversations, and the right side shows the actual messages in a conversation.

Filtering by Phone Number

If your account has more than one phone number, you'll see a dropdown menu in the left panel. Use this to show only the conversations tied to a specific number, which is great for keeping things organized if you have separate numbers for different purposes like sales or marketing.

Your Conversation Views

Below the phone number filter, you'll find several folder-style views to help you find what you need fast.

  • Unread shows conversations with messages you haven't read yet

  • Open shows all active, ongoing conversations

  • Closed shows conversations that have been wrapped up

  • Drafts shows messages you started writing but haven't sent yet

  • All Messages shows everything — both open and closed — in one place

In the All Messages view, closed conversations will appear slightly lighter in color so you can tell them apart from open ones at a glance.

Reading the Conversation List

Each conversation in the middle panel shows you the contact's name and phone number, when the last message was sent or received, and a small emoji icon that tells you which phone number the conversation belongs to. A green icon means there's an unread message in that conversation.

In the All Messages view, you'll also see a small label showing whether each conversation is open or closed.

Taking Bulk Actions

You can select multiple conversations at once using the bulk select option at the top of the conversation list. This lets you mark several conversations as read, unread, open, or closed all at the same time — a big time saver when you have a lot to manage.

There are two ways to use bulk actions. You can select individual conversations by checking them one by one — for example, picking 10 out of 400 open conversations to close. Or, if you want to act on everything in a category at once, the bulk select will grab all conversations in that view, so if you have 400 open conversations and choose to close them all, all 400 will be closed.

Note that bulk actions aren't available in the Drafts folder.

Reading a Conversation

When you click on a conversation, the message panel on the right will open and show the full history of that exchange.

At the top you'll see the contact's name — clicking it opens a side panel with all their contact details and subscription status. You can also mark the conversation as read/unread or open/closed right from here.

Sending a New Message

To start a new conversation, click the New Message button. Type in the name or number of the person you want to reach, then choose which of your phone numbers you'd like to send from. It will default to your main number, but if you're already filtering by a specific number, it will automatically select that one for you.
