Overview
When a phone number is "released" from your account, it disappears from your number drop down menu — but your conversation history doesn't disappear with it. This article explains how to access those old conversations and continue reaching out to your contacts using an active number.
How to View Conversations from Released Numbers
Step 1: Use the "All Numbers" filter
Released numbers won't show up in the standard number dropdown, so you won't see their conversations by default. To find them, select the All Numbers filter in your SMS Inbox. This will display conversations from all numbers, including ones that are no longer active.
Step 2: Open the conversation
Click on the conversation you're looking for. Inside, you'll see a notice that reads:
"The phone number used for this conversation was released and is no longer available."
This just means the number is no longer active in your account but the message history is still there for you to review.
Step 3: Continue the conversation from an active number
Inside that same notice, you'll see a link that says "Send this contact a message from another number."
Clicking this link will do one of two things:
Take you to an existing conversation you've already had with this contact from a different active number, or
Open a new conversation window so you can reach out to them fresh from an active number
